Jessica Amoroso – Owner/Instructor
Jessica received her comprehensive mat and equipment Pilates certification from the Kane School of Core Integration in New York City in 2006 under the direct instruction of Kelly Kane, the founder of the school. The curriculum of this extensive training and apprenticeship emphasized knowledge of biomechanics and anatomy with a clinical approach to the body, while following the classical principles of Pilates. This approach lends itself to a more precise ability to perceive what is going on with one’s body and therefore improve upon it, correcting imbalances and preventing injury.
Jessica has several years of experience teaching group classes and providing semi-private and private instruction at New York City’s and Philadelphia’s most exclusive studios and gyms, in addition to private sessions for in-home clients through her own business. Jessica has worked as a Group Exercise Program Manager for Town Sports International, at Philadelphia Sports Club founding Pilates Reformer programming and managing group exercise programming for a high volume center city Philadelphia club.
In addition to her proficiency as a Pilates teacher, Jessica is also a licensed and registered Occupational Therapist, with a breadth of clinical experience with various special populations, including diagnoses of stroke, hip replacement, orthopedic ailments, MS, Parkinson’s, COPD, cardiac conditions, chronic and acute back pain, and fall prevention. As an OTR, Jessica has worked in sub acute rehabilitation in Skilled Nursing Facilities, memory support, assisted living communities, and inpatient rehabilitation hospital settings. Jessica has experience on the business side of healthcare as a Director of Rehabilitation, managing financial operations and overseeing clinical delivery of therapy services of a team of Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Therapists, most recently at United Methodist Communities at The Shores in Ocean City.
Jessica holds a Master of Occupational Therapy from Temple University, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from New York University. She received her 200 hour level Vinyasa yoga certification from Sonic Yoga in New York City in 2003, and her personal training certification from The National Academy of Sports Medicine in 2009.
With the founding of Downtown Pilates, Jessica plans to bring refined Pilates practice to Ocean City, with thoughtfully crafted programs for each individual client delivered in a private setting. Jessica firmly believes Pilates is appropriate for every person, regardless of age and current level of physical fitness. A committed Pilates practice will facilitate health, fitness and an overall sense of well-being to complement and enhance your daily life and activities.
